Rhodium Plating

All 18ct white gold including the palladium-based gold the MDTdesign uses, has a raw grey colour. All 18ct white gold is plated with a solution called rhodium, which creates a brighter and whiter finish that looks very similar to that of platinum.
Rhodium plating wears back over time which can be noticed when your 18ct white gold jewellery begins to show a slight grey shade. This can be easily fixed by bringing your jewellery back into the store for us to repeat the process at no extra cost to you. This service is included in the lifetime services you receive with any piece of jewellery purchased with MDTdesign.

On average Rhodium plating last around 8-12 months and as other companies on average charge AUD $90 for this service it can begin to add up. We guarantee a quick turnaround on all of our 18ct white gold rhodium plated rings, pendants and earrings as our workshop is located on-site. In most cases rhodium plating on your jewellery can be done on the same day as we understand that no one wants to be without their ring.

The picture below highlights the differences in the colour of platinum and 18ct White gold. The ring on the left has colours of both platinum and 18ct white gold while the second ring is an 18ct white gold ring that has been rhodium plated. To highlight the colour more than a polished finish both rings have an emery finish.
