A conflict free diamond ensures that no one involves was hurt or killed or robbed to obtain the stones.

The importance of buying Conflict Free Diamonds

With a percentage of the world’s diamonds originating from places such as The Democratic Republic of Congo, Sierra Leone, Angola and Liberia, it’s critical to ensure that the diamonds mined haven’t funded the unrest and war in this places. If the only diamonds sold and purchased around the world were 100% free of conflict diamonds, or Blood Diamonds, there would be no market for them and they would become worthless.

The Kimberly Process

The Kimberly Process is a document with set rules and regulations for importing and exporting rough-cut diamonds. It make sure that all shipments of diamonds that cross into another country are certified, numbered and sealed in tamper-resistant containers. Once shipped, the containers are accompanied by a government validation certificate that verifies that the diamonds have been bought from legitimate sources, and were not involved in the funding of conflict.
